TOP QUESTIONS
How many pages can be indexed?
We index sites of all sizes. Many of our sites have in excess of one hundred thousand pages.

Free accounts start with an initial limit of 64MB of HTML and/or text (about 3,000 average sized pages). This limit can be increased, and large sites are welcome.

Subscription accounts are available in six standard plans up to 25,000 pages. For sites with more than 25,000 pages please contact us. Our subscription accounts do not subsidize the free accounts and are the most cost-effective available.

How often can I have my site reindexed?
All accounts get unlimited on-demand reindexing and automatic reindexing as often as daily. Automatic reindexing can be scheduled to occur on a flexible daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Because free accounts are not subsidized by subscription accounts, there are no hidden limitations or "gotchas".

Is there a professional version?
Yes, our service is designed for professionals. We recommend the professional subscription version to all businesses and anyone else who might find the advertising undesirable or who wants extended features and support.

The subscription version of our service is 100% advertising-free. It does not show our logo or any other identifying information. All subscription plans allow you to have fast re-indexing. "Enterprise" plans have even faster "parallel" re-indexing. Priority email support for quick answers to your questions is also available. In addition, subscription accounts do not subsidize free accounts, so you're not paying for someone else's search engine.

Our load-balanced server farm provides both high performance and high availability. We are the pioneer in this field and have a proven track record of providing reliable search and navigation services to many thousands of websites around the world.

Do you index PDF files?
Yes, all FreeFind accounts can index PDF files and most other common office file formats. To do this simply log in, go to the build index page page and then use the extended indexing option.
What extended (non-search) features do you have?
Other services that come free with your account are:
  • Automatic Site Map – Every time your site is indexed we can create a top-level outline of your site. This lets your visitors know where they want to go at a glance.
  • Automatic What's New Listing – This feature lists recently changed pages on your site along with an optional comment on the change from the webmaster.
  • Automatic Word Index – This feature lists all words that appear on your site and allows the user to easily search a specific word.
All of these features are part of your search engine account, to use or not use as you see fit.
Where do I go from here?
Go back to our home page and sign up for a free account. Once you receive your free account you will be able to change it to an ad-free subscription account (if desired) with just a few clicks.
MORE QUESTIONS
Can you tell me about your company?
FreeFind pioneered the remotely-hosted site search engine business and so has the longest track record in the field.

Our conservative management decisions have given our company stability and long term reliability.

Unlike other internet companies, FreeFind has never had a "market share at any cost" attitude. While other companies were committing themselves to expensive high profile deals and long term over-priced services, FreeFind was optimizing its efficiency. As a result we do not depend on Venture Capital money to keep us going until some "drop dead" date, nor do we need excessively high pricing to pay off our investors.

This means that we are uniquely positioned to be your most dependable source of high-reliability search services -- the same high quality service we supply to thousands of other web sites.

Do you display advertising?
Our free accounts do display advertising on the search results. This allows us to provide a full-featured solution to you without the usual hidden free service limitations or "gotchas" designed to make you pay.

If you do not want advertising, consider one of our subscription plans. They start at only $5/month. These plans eliminate 100% of the sponsorship content, including any mention of FreeFind.

What kind of advertising will be shown on free accounts?
We show advertisements for a wide range of products, services, and web sites. We do NOT show ads for so-called "adult" sites.

FreeFind is used by many sites sensitive to the types of ads displayed including religious, child, educational, and government sites.

If you do not want advertising, consider one of our subscription plans. They start at only $5/month. These plans eliminate 100% of the sponsorship content, including any mention of FreeFind.

Is there a no-advertising version?
Yes. The subscription version of our service is 100% advertising-free and does not show our logo or any other identifying information. Most plans come with priority email support for quick answers to your questions. In addition, subscription accounts do not subsidize free accounts, so you're not paying for someone else's search engine.

Subscription plans start at only $5/month.

How much does this cost?
There are two types of accounts. Free "sponsored" accounts and subscription accounts.

Sponsored accounts are truly free. Advertising displayed on the search results allows us to provide a full-featured solution to you without the usual hidden free service limitations or "gotchas" designed to make you pay. If you do not want advertising, consider one of our subscription plans. They start at only $5/month.

Subscription accounts are 100% sponsorship-free and most come with priority email support for quick answers to your questions. In addition, subscription accounts do not subsidize free accounts, so you're not paying for someone else's search engine. Because of this, they have very affordable pricing.

Why is your pricing so low?
There are two things that allow us to offer low pricing:
  1. Subscription accounts do not subsidize free accounts. Because free accounts are supported by advertising, your subscription account is not paying for someone else to have a free search engine.
  2. We are a conservative, profitable internet company. For more on this, see the answer to Can you tell me about your company?
Can more than one site be combined into a single index?
Yes. This is trivial to do with our easy-to-use Control Center. For detailed instructions look here.
Can the look of the search results be customized?
Yes. You can easily customize the look of the search results by using the Control Center. You can also use templates to "drop" the search results into a page completely designed by you.
Can dynamic content be indexed (database, asp, jsp, php, cfm, shtml, etc)?
Yes. FreeFind does not care what happens "behind the scenes" at your server. It accesses your pages just like a visitor with a browser does. Because of this it can index just about any site on the web.
Does it work with frames?
Yes, FreeFind works fine with frames.
Can my corporate intranet be indexed?
Typically no. Most corporate intranets are private and so are shielded from our spider (indexer). We cannot index such sites. If your web site is visible to the public over the internet we can index it.
Can password-protected pages be indexed?
Yes. Pages protected with HTTP Basic Authentication can be indexed. Also, we can index content that requires a filling out a typical web form to log in.
Can you index my database?
Only websites accessible over the internet can be indexed. It is OK if the web pages are dynamically generated from a database, but they must appear to an internet browser as web pages. Databases cannot be indexed directly.
Can you index my CD-ROM, my hard disk?
Only websites accessible over the internet can be indexed. It is OK if the web pages are read off a CD-ROM or hard disk, but they must appear to an internet browser as web pages.
What are your privacy policies?
We have very strict privacy policies. For more information, look here.
What is the difference between site search and web search?
"Site search" is what a visitor to your site uses to locate pages on your site only.
"Web search" is used to locate pages anywhere on the entire internet. Typically, web search results do not include pages from your site simply because your site is only one of millions.
